Go Fishing  >> Preferred baits | Terrain clues | Fishing by season | Knots | Rigs

When making rigs, attaching individual pieces of tackle, or just tying your pre-made rigs to your main line, you'll need to know the best knot for the purpose. There are so many knots and variations, we have selected a "Top Five" which we think are definitely worth knowing, followed by some more general purpose knots. Click on the links below to view each knot !

Albright - Blood bight - Blood - Centauri - Uni - Round turn and two half hitches - Figure of eight - Reef - Sheet bend - Double sheet bend - Anchor hitch or Fisherman's bend

KNOT 5 - UNI KNOT
For attaching swivels, split rings and hooks
Step 1
Pass the end of the line through the ring from beneath.

Once you have done this, form a loop with the end making sure that the end of the line comes to rest over the top of the entire formation so far as shown.
Step 2
Pass the end behind the formation and then up through the loop which you first made.
Step 3
Repeat step 2 so that there are a total of 6 turns around the main body of the knot.
Step 4
Once you have done this, the knot should look like the picture shown here.
Step 5
Pull the knot tight.
