Go Fishing  >> Preferred baits | Terrain clues | Fishing by season | Knots | Rigs

When making rigs, attaching individual pieces of tackle, or just tying your pre-made rigs to your main line, you'll need to know the best knot for the purpose. There are so many knots and variations, we have selected a "Top Five" which we think are definitely worth knowing, followed by some more general purpose knots. Click on the links below to view each knot !

Albright - Blood bight - Blood - Centauri - Uni - Round turn and two half hitches - Figure of eight - Reef - Sheet bend - Double sheet bend - Anchor hitch or Fisherman's bend

KNOT 4 (version 1) - SHEET BEND
Step 1
Prepare one piece as if about to make a loop.
Step 2
Add the other piece by bringing it underneath the first as shown.
Step 3
Pass the end of the second piece up and over the end of the first, then underneath the parallel formation, over the top, and finally pass it through the loop which has now formed between itself and the other end.
Step 4
Pull the knot tight.

KNOT 4 (version 2) - DOUBLE SHEET BEND
Steps 1 - 3 as per the Sheet bend knot above

Step 4

At this point repeat step 3 by passing the working end underneath the parallel formation once more, then up and over the top and once again through the loop which has formed between itself and the other piece.
Step 5
Pull the knot tight.
