Reviewing
Berkley Powerbait Mullet and Sandeel lures
I met with the members that would be fishing and we
decided who would fish with which bait. We fished
at the end of Ryde pier, this was a night fishing
event.
All members agreed that the lures were relatively
easy to rig and no-one had any problems using them.
All Mullet were fished on size 1 baitholder hooks
and the Sandeels were fished on size 2 long shank.
The only slipping of the lure happened because the
line was fouled on the pier, everyone commented that
the lure stayed where it was supposed to be.
Most of the bites that were detected were strong pulls
and those that hooked into fish landed them. The lures
appeared, on the night, to be robust and were a pleasure
to use.
Fish caught included, 4 Bass to 3.5lbs, 2 Smoothhounds
to 5lbs and 1 Wrasse of 1lb on the Sandeel and 1 small
school Bass on the Mullet. All agreed that those that
chose the Sandeel had a much better nights fishing.
Some of our members rarely use anything else but lures
and they are going to the tackle shop to buy some
more.
I went boat fishing the following Sunday and asked
the other fishermen to try some of the lures that
were left and they all caught fish with them as well,
the skipper asked where he could buy some.
