Reviewing
Challenger Sandeel Lures
The Challenger Fire Tiger and Silver Blue Back are
10gm sinking lures with what is called a “rattling
system”. This is a small weighted ball inserted
into the body of the lure. This ball, when the lure
is cast, rolls to the tail of the lure and allows
the lure to be cast in a streamline manner.
Both
of the lures when cast, did so in a streamline manner
of about 30-35 metres in distance, not bad, and they
compare favourably with similar lures in their class.
They tend to wobble slowly from side to side but at
the same time are easy to control. When retrieving
fast they dive deep.
I
think that whether the lures are easy to see or not
is purely academic from the angler's point of you,
but as to the fish's viewpoint, I found that having
used these lures for approximately 5 hours, the Fire
Tiger which for me was harder to see in the clear
water, was the only lure to catch fish - a small Pollack.
Each of the lures was very visible when in the water
but it was thought the Silver Blue Back might be more
effective in cloudy or slightly brackish water.
The
lures are easy to rig and use, and having caught a
fish on one of the lures, I would feel happy and confident
to use them again.
I also found the quality of the manufacture and packaging
equal to many other makes of lures I have used and
felt that they were a welcome addition to the tackle
box.
