Reviewing Redgill Afterburner Ravers

A
t last a chance to try the Redgill Afterburner Ravers when we arranged a two day trip on 26th and 27th of April to Penzance aboard 'Capriole' skippered by Dave Paddock.

Dave arranged b&b in the Beechwood hotel just minutes from the mooring. We arrived to fish the first day at 0700 after a night trip down from Essex little knowing what a great trip awaited us. At 0900 we arrived at the first mark and i gave each member of the crew a Raver to try at sometime during the day. We were into fish almost from dropping down for the first time. First fish fell to a Raver - a Pollock of about 5lb. This was put straight back in memory of a recently deceased club member Ken Verbruggen, a friend as well as a fishing colleague.

From then on fish were coming on board at a regular rate. It did not take long to
realise that the bigger fish from 7lb and up were falling to the Ravers with smaller fish falling prey to jelly worms mainly black with red tails.

The first day closed at about 1730 with us thanking the skipper for a great day.
Knackered, we headed for the b&b that had arranged for a new top hose to be delivered
for one of our vehicles that limped into Penzance on a prayer and no little amount
of steam from the rad.

The pictures enclosed are from the first days fishing and the second day was just as
good. The only thing that spoilt it was that we had no Ravers left to fish with and had to
make do with a variety of jelly worms.
In summary it was our best trip for some time. Great weather, a very knowledgeable
skipper and a very helpful b&b. The Ravers earned respect from us all. The colour did
not seem to make a difference, it was more to do with the action. If the fish were
there they took the Ravers after no more than two of three turns from the bottom.
They are definitely on our shopping list before the next trip!

.

Thank you to John Wheatley and his club at the Waltham Abbey Sea Angling Club for trying the Redgill Afterburner Eels and giving us their opinion.
