Reviewing
Wicked Wedges
Rye on the south coast, and our first trip since last
year due to heavy winds. We have been blown out for
half the year.
Tony the skipper informed us that Cod were about,
taking Redgills, Jellyworms and the occasional Pirk
so we had the chance then to try the Wicked Wedges
sent to us to trial.
As we set off, the sun was shining and the sea was
smooth and stayed that way for the whole day.
First wreck and we tried various methods including
Wicked Wedges. Everyone was impressed with the construction
and finish. Tackling up was a doddle tying on feathers
and using an american snap swivel to clip on the Wedges.
A number of bites were recorded from big Cod but as
they neared the surface the fish just let go and this
was the same the whole day. A few Cod were caught
but all to Redgills and jellyworms.
Comments made throughout the trip included : taking
of the single hook and trying a triple hook to increase
the chances of hooking. The Wedges were easier to
control and much quicker to retrieve than our usual
bits of lead loaded steel tubing.
All in all, we felt that they would work well but
on this day the fish wanted other lures although we
will continue to use the two we have left on other
trips in the future and will report back on any successes.
